We designed the resistance structure for the multifunctional building located on a plot of land with an area of approximately 2,911 sqm. The building’s footprint is of approximately 2,690 sqm (the infrastructure occupies about 90% of the property area). The design of the deep excavation and the related foundation support works were carried out by our geotechnical engineering department.
The resistance structure of reinforced concrete
The reinforced concrete resistance structure of the superstructure has a massive central core, placed in the main stairwells and elevators, which ensures the vertical circulation from the basement 5 to the last above-ground level. This central core is the only one that has continuity along all the structure’s levels.
Individual core walls were introduced in the secondary stairs area (in coordination with the architecture theme) to ensure the necessary rigidity of the structure during the seismic action and to balance the structure of resistance in terms of dynamic behavior.
The reinforced concrete floor is thick slab type. Post-tensioning capitals and strands were introduced in large openings area, in front of the elevator core. A beam was placed on the contour to even out the deformations and to take over the load from the façade, arranged per linear meter.
The infrastructure consists of the entire foundation system as well as the 5 underground levels for parking and technical spaces.
The infrastructure’s structural system is made up by continuing in the basement with the vertical elements related to the superstructure, as well as by the introduction of new walls and pillars to provide the necessary rigidity and the rigid box behavior. The foundation was made on a general piloted screed with variable thickness depending on the number of above-ground levels of each area. We chose the Top-Down execution technology to support the excavation during the execution, considering the 5 levels of basement, the presence of groundwater and the irregular shape of the building.
