We will make an analysis of the behavior of buildings at horizontal stresses, especially due to the seismic action, from the point of view of the type of structure. The buildings made of simple masonry have an unsatisfactory behavior to this type of actions and over time, through various methods, an improvement has been sought.
The result of ennobling the reinforced concrete masonry is radical. In fact, we can say that a material has been replaced, the brick in this case, with its low resistance to stretching and shearing, with another composite material with increased and more ductile resistance. Framing, ennobling masonry with reinforced concrete elements changes the mechanism of production and evolution of degradations and the response of construction to seismic actions. Through its composition, overall effects are obtained, improving the stability and deformability of the walls as structural elements.
