A new sports center will be built on the site of the former Tineretului Stadium in Craiova, which will include Romania’s first covered athletics arena and first indoor category I velodrome. The complex will host national and international competitions, with stands seating 6,000 people.
The building has an approximately elliptical shape, with a height of S+P+3E, a built area of 11,098 square meters, and a total floor area of 34,385 square meters. The basement will be used for parking, technical spaces, and storage.
The Category I velodrome is designed for speeds of 80-85 km/h, and the athletics track is the only one in the country that meets current European requirements, including a 200 m oval track with 6 lanes and a 60 m straight track with 8 lanes.
The playing surface will be modular, allowing for various events to be held, such as high jump, triple jump, pole vault, or shot put.
Our team provided structural design services, deep excavation design, excavation support works, and technical assistance throughout the project implementation period.

MC General Construct EngineeringThe closed metal roof has an oval shape, consisting of two half circles (radius of 50 m) and a straight central area of 32 m. The resulting openings are 100 m in the transverse direction and 132 m in the longitudinal direction.
Several structural variants were investigated to identify a viable solution that was as close to optimal as possible, and the final option consisted of 32 FPS (Friction Pendulum Slider) seismic isolators – spherical friction isolators. The role of these isolators is to reduce the forces generated at the reinforced concrete columns due to both the lateral deformation of the roof caused by variations in gravitational and temperature loads, and to reduce the seismic mass of the roof.
