The project involves the consolidation, extension and attic of the C1-Rectorate body belonging to the Ovidius University of Constanta.

The building was built in the 20th mid-century. It has a structure made of masonry walls and reinforced concrete slabs and houses on each level classrooms, laboratories, technical and administrative spaces. The main western façade facing Mamaia Boulevard is about 80 m long and the secondary northern façade is about 32 m long. The building is organised in the form of a central section with two wings located at the ends, not separated by any seismic joints. The building is currently unused and there is extensive damage to the structure and finishes.

For the technical assessment phase of the C1-Rectorate building, our team carried out:

• – geotechnical study to evaluate the foundation conditions (2 geotechnical boreholes, 2 dynamic penetrations with heavy cone and 1 test boring);
• – 3D laser scanning of the construction to obtain the building survey;
• testing of building materials to determine their strength;
• – technical structural expertise (requirement A1);
• – Af technical expertise on foundation conditions.

Following the verification of the structural elements, it was found that the resistance structure requires reinforcement/decommissioning interventions in order to meet the current safety and stability conditions.
