This article is an overview of the main intervention techniques currently put into practice on existing buildings. Ways to remedy the existing degradations, the need to ensure the unitary cooperation of the building and methods to improve the structural seismic capacity are treated. Regarding the improvement of the seismic risk, three different approaches are treated, namely the increase of the rigidity of the building, its isolation from the effects of the earthquake and the increase of its damping capacity. The article is based on works put in place or on proposals for interventions for buildings such as the Patriarchate Palace, Victoria Palace, the Evangelical Church in Sibiu, the Palace Hall and the Cărturești Carousel building.
